Carol Jean Akins Muntz, resident of the Oakland Community, retired Florist and wife of the late Edward Leon Muntz died Thursday morning, December 2, 2010 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for several weeks. She was 69 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Muntz were conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, December 5
th
at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Robert E. Muntz of Hickory Withe, officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Muntz was born May 27, 1941 in McKenzie, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Paul Wesley Akins and the late Francis Bonds Akins. She moved at an early age with her family to Memphis and was educated in the Memphis Public School System. Mrs. Muntz was associated with the floral industry for much of her life and was employed as a Florist for Market Basket in Memphis before her retirement. She was a member of the Hickory Withe Full Gospel Church and had been a resident of the Oakland Community for over twenty-five years.
She enjoyed working with her hands and will be remembered as a creative person who enjoyed arranging flowers and special times with her family. Fishing throughout her life was a favorite past time and her pet dog “Buster Brown” was a constant companion.
Mrs. Muntz is survived by her daughter, Shanna Greer of Oakland, her sons, Anthony Reed Ivy of Batesville, MS, Paul E. Grooms of Myrtle, MS, Kenneth Michael Grooms of Oakland, Donald Rae Muntz of Jackson, TN, her brothers, Robert Wesley Akins of Coldwater, MS, Mike Stanford of Roanoke, VA, Terry Stanford of Independence, MS and fourteen grandchildren.
Mrs. Muntz was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Leon Muntz, her sons, Ronnie Edward Rorie, Sammy Dean Sparks and William Edward Muntz.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Phillip Hill, Jr., Jeremy Jaynes, Jamie King, Jason Stafford and Terry Thomas.
