Carolyn (Jones) Horton

December 14, 1928 — May 7, 2017

Carolyn J. Horton, age 88, wife of the late Dr. Glenn E. Horton, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2017 surrounded by loving family members. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Louella Berry Jones and her brothers, Jerry Jones and Gary Jones. She is survived by her three daughters, whom she often referred to as her "Three B's", Elizabeth "Beth" Horton of Cordova, TN, Brenda Gichner (Dave) of Somerville, TN and Beverly Savage (Tony) of Rossville, TN; granddaughter, Freedom Scott (Jason) of Kennesaw, GA and great-granddaughter, Isabella Scott of Kennesaw, GA.

Carolyn was born December 14, 1928 in Beebe, Arkansas and lived most of her adult life in Germantown and Memphis, Tennessee. She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, the St. Nicholas Guild, the Memphis and Shelby County Women's Medical Auxiliary, the Brooks Art League, the Woman's Exchange, the Duration Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Nineteenth Century Club, a founding member of the Memphis Ecumenical Children's Association (MECA), which was the predecessor to Youth Villages, the English Speaking Union, Memories / Four Seasons, the Listener's Book Club, Le Livresque Book Club and the Merry Readers Book Club.

Carolyn received much pleasure in hosting family dinners. In addition to her family, her other passions included volunteering, reading, sewing, her friends, duck hunting with her husband, vacationing in the Bahamas and summers spent at Horseshoe Lake with the extended family. She was lovingly cared for in her later years by her oldest daughter, Beth.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Horton were conducted at 12 noon Monday, May 15, 2017 at St. George's Episcopal Church at 2425 S. Germantown Road in Germantown with Rev. Dorothy Sanders Wells officiating. Graveside Services were at 2 P.M. Monday, May 15, 2017 at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Tony Savage, David Gichner, Richie Savage and Jason Scott.
