Carolyn Elaine “Wayne” Simmons Tacker, resident of Tupelo, Mississippi, former resident of the Moscow Community and retired poet, novelist and vocalist departed this life in the comfort of her home in Tupelo on Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013. She was 69 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Ms. Tacker were conducted at 3 P.M. Friday, March 29th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Lynn Eagan of Collierville, retired pastor of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Moscow officiating. Interment followed in the Friendship Cemetery at Moscow. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Ms. Tacker was born March 5, 1944 in Moscow. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elwood Woodrow Simmons and Freddie Mae Wiley Simmons. Ms. Tacker received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and moved to the Tupelo area five years ago to be near her children. She retained her membership at the Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Moscow throughout her life and was saved in September of 1968. While in Tupelo, she attended the Oak Ridge Christian Church.
She will be remembered as a multi-talented person who enjoyed flowers, birds, nature and writing. Some of her publications included articles in the International Library of Poetry, in the book, “On The Wings Of Pegasus” and “Our 100 Most Famous Poems” published by the Famous Poets Society, of which she was a member. Ms. Tacker had a lifelong love of music and in earlier years was a member of a Christian musical group that entertained churches and organizations throughout the area. She possessed a keen interest in politics, both locally and nationally.
She often commented that the most important things in her life were her love of God first and then her four wonderful children, grandchildren and other family members. In later years, she was surrounded by her precious family who enriched her life with their support and love.
Ms. Tacker is survived by three daughters, Kim Sanders (Calvin) of Horn Lake, MS, Linda Tacker of Tupelo, MS, Martie Moxley (Gary) of Tupelo, MS; her son, James “Del” Fraley (Ellen) of Henderson, TN; two sisters, Sue German of Moscow, Linda Garcia of Moscow; her brother, Edward Simmons of LaGrange; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant child; her sister, Peggy Williams; and an infant brother.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Justin Sanders, Corey German, Marvin German, Brandon Williams, Robbie Cook and Kyle Brock.
Honorary casketbearers were Seth Moxley, Jason Smith and James Jordan.
