CARROLL LOUIS THOMAS, a resident of the Somerville Community, retired Construction Employee and native Fayette Countian died at 4:55 A.M. Monday, August 17, 2009 at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville where he had resided for two months. He was 61 years of age and died following an extended illness of three months.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, August 19th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. John Ed Watkins, Pastor of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville, officiating. Personal reflections were given by Mr. Thomas' daughter, Stephanie Bennett and her husband, Grady. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Thomas was born in Fayette County on May 11, 1948. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Louis Thomas and Lonie Belle Thompson Thomas, residents of the Williston Community.
Mr. Thomas was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and had resided his entire life in the Somerville area.
He was involved in construction for most of his working years and was employed in the family business, Thomas Acoustical Ceilings in Somerville before his retirement for health reasons.
He was a member of the Victory Life Assembly of God Church in Somerville and was active in his church as long as health permitted.
He was a familiar figure at the Hut Restaurant where he enjoyed eating and visiting with friends and family members.
In earlier years he enjoyed animals, camping and hunting.
Mr. Thomas served as a caretaker for his mother before her death.
Survivors of Mr. Thomas include his daughter, Stephanie Bennett (Grady) of Hickory Withe; two sisters, Kathleen Hoskins of Moscow and Euphine Byrd of Somerville and one brother, Tony Thomas of Somerville.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Lewis Thomas.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were family members and friends.
