CHARLES EARL BRYANT, resident of the Williston Community, retired U.S. Naval Career person and husband of Carolyn Brown Bryant, died at 8:45 A.M. Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Baptist Hospital at Collierville where he had been a patient since February 13th. He was 64 years of age and died following an extended illness of several years.
Funeral services for Mr. Bryant were conducted at 3 P.M. Friday at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with military chaplain, Robert Beede of Bartlett, officiating. Interment, with full military honors, was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville was in charge of arrangements.
A native of Bessemer, Alabama, Mr. Bryant was born February 1, 1944, the son of the late Mack Bryant and the former Katie Clark. He was educated in the Bay Minette, AL public school system and was a graduate of the Bay Minette High School. Mr. Bryant was married April 4, 1964 to the former Carolyn Joyce Brown, who survives.
Mr. Bryant was a U.S. Naval Career Person, serving his country for twenty-three years before his retirement in 1983 from the Millington Naval Station. He had been a resident of Fayette County since 1982 and was of the Baptist faith. An avid woodworker who operated his own shop, Mr. Bryant specialized in building custom wood cabinets that included hand crafted flag cases that he shipped throughout the world and to the Pentagon. He was a family oriented person who placed others first and was devoted to those he loved.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bryant is survived by his sons, Greg Bryant (Carolyn), Larry Bryant (Kimberly); his daughter-in-law, Tabatha Bryant, all of the Williston Community; his mother, Katie Nall of Bay Minette, AL; six sisters, Kathy Benton, Ruth Norton, Linda Bryant, Lois Kimmons, all of Bay Minette, AL, Peggy Davis of Gulf Shores, AL, Maxine Dean of Perdido, AL; two brothers, Johnny Mack Bryant and Tommy Dale Bryant, both of Bay Minette, AL and 6 grandchildren.
The family request that memorials be directed to the Family Cancer Center at Collierville, 1936 West Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN 38012.
