Charles Bryan Dodd, Sr.

Charles Bryan Dodd, Sr., age 94, resident of Somerville and husband of Ila Faye Carter Dodd, departed this life Wednesday morning, September 21, 2016 at the SomerOak Assisted Living Center in Somerville.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Dodd were conducted at 3 P.M. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Chuck Miller officiating. Interment with Military Honors were at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery near Germantown. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Dodd was born September 29, 1921 in Hope, Arkansas. He moved with his family to the Memphis area at an early age and was a graduate of Messick High School Class of 1939. He was preceded in death by her parents, Jackson Dodd and Allie Bee Gandy Dodd. He served his country in the United States Army during the World War II period and was married December 7, 1946 to the former Ila Faye Carter.

Mr. Dodd was married December 7, 1946 to the former Ila Faye Carter and he was a longtime resident of the Memphis area for 55 years. He was employed for over 40 years as a traffic engineer for the City of Memphis before his retirement and he was a member for over 40 years at the Macon Road Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon, Elder and Treasurer. He was most recently a member of the LaGrange Presbyterian Church. His hobbies included coin collecting, fishing and working on his fishing lures, bird watching and working crossword puzzles. He will be remembered as a talented stained glass artist who gave many of his creations to the LaGrange Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Dodd is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Ila Faye Carter Dodd of Somerville; his daughter, Linda Moffitt (Clyde) of Middleton; his son, Charles Dodd, Jr. (Jennifer) of Ooltewah, TN; two grandchildren, Lisa Moffitt (Nick Treanor), Christopher Moffitt (Patricia); and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson Dodd and Allie Bee Gandy Dodd; his sister, Evelyn Morris; and his brother, Jack Dodd.

Mr. Dodd’s family members served as pallbearers.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
