Charles Bennett Finney

August 16, 1922 — July 10, 2013

Charles Bennett Finney, Sr., longtime resident of Memphis, retired hairstylist, founder of the Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club and husband of the late Juanita Bondy Finney departed this life early Wednesday morning, July 10, 2013 at the Ave Maria Home in Bartlett where he resided for the past six months. He was 90 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services with Military Honors for Mr. Finney will be at 1 Saturday afternoon at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with visitation one hour before services. Special music will be provided by Deanna Hardy, pianist, Caroline Hardy, violinist and Gene Finney, harmonica. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Avenue in Memphis. Joseph Hardy will play the trumpet at the Graveside. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Finney was born August 16, 1922 in Dyersburg, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Pinkney Finney and Ruby Johnson Finney. He received his education in the Tennessee Public School System and was married November 8, 1945 to the former Juanita Bondy, who preceded him in death in 2009.

Mr. Finney served his country in the United States Navy and Merchant Marines during World War II and later was employed as a hairstylist for the Gould's Salon in Memphis for over 40 years before his retirement 25 years ago. He was the founder of the Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club and was a devoted member of the Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis.

Mr. Finney is survived by his daughter, Charline Edwards (Michael) of Memphis; two sons, Charles Finney, Jr. of Covington, Richard Finney of Memphis; his sister, Fraulein Stewart of Memphis; two brothers, Gene Finney of Memphis, Daniel Finney of Memphis; two grandsons, Robert Finney, Bryant Finney; two great grandsons, Jordan Finney and Joseph Finney.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be William Green, Walt Walton, Mike Leeks, Robert Finney, Bryant Finney and Rick Finney.
