Charles Edward Gain

Charles Edward Gain, a resident of Cordova with extended family members in Fayette County and longtime Velsicol Chemical Corporation Employee died Sunday morning, August 2, 2009 at his home. He was 76 years of age and died unexpectedly.

Funeral services for Mr. Gain were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 6th at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Cordova with Monsignor Peter Buchingnani, officiating. Interment was private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Gain was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas on March 25, 1933. He was married August 14, 1953 to the former Mildred Ann Schmidt of Randolph County, Arkansas, retired employee of the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, who survives.

Mr. Gain served in the United States Army during the Korean War Period and was employed by Velsicol for forty-one years before his retirement thirteen years ago.

He was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and will be remembered for his love of crappie fishing, caring for his yard and growing roses.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. Gain is survived by three daughters: Melinda Davis of Lakeland; Brenda Kay Hettinger (Rocky) of Tucson, AZ and Cynthia Hill of Cordova; three sisters: Betty McNabb of Potosi, MO; Erma Blair and Mary Dell Gain, both of Burlington, VT; her brother, Paul Gain of Pocahontas, AR; six grandchildren: Ashley Stumbo, Brandon Davis, Aaron Williams, Amanda Williams, Felicia Hill and Jonathan Hill and seven great-grandchildren.
