CHARLES EDWIN "CHARLIE" GERMAN, a resident of Memphis, longtime Welder and native of Fayette County died at 8:35 P.M. Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital North in Memphis where he had been a patient for one week. He was 70 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mr. German with Military Recognition were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, December 27th at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Clayton Wilbanks of Loretto, Tennessee, officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery of the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. German was born March 1, 1938 in Fayette County the son of the late Jesse German and the late Mina O. Douglass German. He served in the United States Navy as a young person and was educated in the Fayette County Public School System.

Mr. German was a Protestant and had been a resident of Memphis for much of his adult life. He was a longtime Welder for the Southern Boiler Company in Memphis and the Plant Maintenance Company in Millington. For the past ten years he enjoyed lawn maintenance for neighbors and friends.

Mr. German will be remembered as a people person who enjoyed the fellowship of many. He remained active until his death and was a frequent visitor to Fayette County and his extended family members.

Survivors of Mr. German include his son, Russell "Rusty" W. German of Burlison, TN in Tipton County; three sisters: Ethel Sharber of Chattanooga, TN; Melvis Crisp and Juanita Corlis, both of Memphis; his brother, Jesse Stewart German of Memphis and one grandson.

Family members and friends served as casket bearers.

The family request that Memorials be directed to the charity or organization of the donor's choice.
