Charlie Greer
1925 -2010
Charles William Greer, resident of the Williston Community, longtime Long Distance Truck Operator and United States Navy Veteran died Tuesday morning October 5, 2010 at the Methodist Hospital in Somerville where he had been a patient for three days. He was 85 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral Services for Mr. Greer were conducted at 2 PM Friday, October 8th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Tony Watkins, officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Greer was born July 18, 1925 in Moscow the son of the late Jonie Thomas Greer, Sr. and the late Alma Garrison Greer. He was educated in the Fayette County School System and served in the United States Navy during the WW II period. He was married on June 15, 1940 the former Mary Lou Barker who preceded him in death. of this year prior to the death of Mrs. Greer on July 26th.
Mr. Greer was a Long Distance Truck Operator for Roadway Express for over 40 years before his retirement. He was a Christian who enjoyed golf and music with memberships in the Somerville Country Club and Somerville Moose Lodge. Mr. and Mrs. Greer were residents of Memphis for a number of years and had returned to Fayette County to live in the Williston Community 25 years ago.
Mr. Greer is survived by his sister, Dorothy Ann Doak of Jackson, TN and a number of nieces and nephews.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Max Burch, Randy Douglas, Hank Franck, Jay Kemper, Chris “Smiley” Parker and J.T. Stamper.
Honorary casketbearers were Dan Durham, Charlene Horton, John McKenzie, Carl Smith, Bobby Tapp, Charles Taylor and Gerald Taylor.
