Charles W. Watkins, Sr.

March 5, 1932 — December 22, 2013

Charles W. Watkins, Sr., longtime resident of the Moscow Community, retired owner of Watkins Service Station in Moscow and husband of the late Mary Feathers Watkins, departed this life Sunday morning, December 22, 2013 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville where he had been a patient for four months. He was 81 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Watkins were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, December 28th at the Oak Grove Baptist Church at Moscow with Bro. Tony Watkins of Williston officiating. He was assisted by Bro. Gary Joyner and Bro. David Parlow. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Watkins was born March 5, 1932 in Moscow. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Watkins and Lillie Mae Isbell Watkins, early residents of the Oak Grove Community. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married November 15, 1949 to the former Mary Feathers, who preceded him in death October 24, 2003.

Mr. Watkins owned and operated the Watkins Service Station in Moscow for a number of years and was also employed by the Witt Refrigeration Manufacturing Company in Collierville before his retirement. He was a Christian and a lifelong resident of the Moscow Community. His love for people endeared himself to many throughout his lifetime. He truly loved his family and his community and reminiscing about “old times” in Fayette County and in Moscow. Sawmilling, building picnic tables, hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes.

Mr. Watkins is survived by four daughters, Ann Skelton of Downers Grove, IL, Joyce Earnest (Buddy) of Somerville, Brenda Huey (Keith) of Pontotoc, MS, Jo Brown (Roger) of Shelbyville, TN; his son, Charles M. Watkins (Melissa) of Somerville; his sister, Mildred Prestage of Polk City, FL; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Mickey Watkins, Michael Watkins, Al Tice, Roger Brown, Bryan Skelton and Chris Watkins.
Honorary casketbearers were David Watkins, Nicholas Thomas, Buddy Earnest, Bud Skelton and Keith Huey.
