Charles Franklin "Charlie" McConnell, age 70, resident of Somerville, Tennessee, departed this life Saturday afternoon, April 9, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tennessee.
Charlie was born May 26, 1951 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of the late Marion E. McConnell and Laura Nell Davis McConnell. He graduated from Ripley High School and graduated from Memphis State University with his Bachelor's degree in psychology. He continued working at Memphis State University for many years as a psychology professor. He achieved his PhD in Psychology from the University of Memphis in 2008 and taught psychology and statistics at Bethel University before his retirement in 2019.
Mr. McConnell worked closely with the Memphis Fire Department as well as TDOT writing grants for the state for many years. He was a boilermaker for 17 years and a member of the Rotary Club. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Somerville and in the community, volunteering his time anywhere he could.
Mr. McConnell is survived by four children, Autumn McConnell of Somerville, TN, Jacob McConnell (Megan) of Somerville, TN, Whitney Booker of Halls, TN and Charles "Chuck" McConnell of Halls, TN; and six grandchildren.
Memorial Services for Mr. McConnell were held at 11 A.M. Monday, April 18, 2022 at First United Methodist Church of Somerville.
