Charlie M. "PawPaw" Kee, lifelong resident of the Fayette County area, departed this life on Monday evening, September 29, 2014 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for one day. He was 85 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Kee were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Willie Raines of New Albany, Mississippi, officiating. Special music was provided by Glenda Raines and Shannon Kee, soloists. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Kee was born October 26, 1928 in Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jonas Kee and Beda Elizabeth Smith Kee. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married March 15, 1947 to the former Nancy Thompson, who survives. Mr. Kee was a lifelong resident of the Fayette County area and was a member of the Somerville Church of God.
Mr. Kee was employed as a mechanic for Liles Brothers and was a cattle farmer. He was well-known for repairing lawn mowers and enjoyed outdoor activities that included farming, camping, coon hunting and attending rodeos. He will be remembered for his good sense of humor and for being full of laughter.
In addition to his beloved wife of 67 years, Mr. Kee is survived by two daughters, Margaret Whittemore (Gary) of Somerville, Shirley Weaver of Somerville; five sons, Charles Richard Kee of Somerville, Raymond Kee (Mary Ruth) of Somerville, Leslie Kee (Cathy) of Charleston, SC, Mark Kee of Somerville, Mike Kee (Jen) of Somerville; 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren and a host of other family members, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Gail Holley; his granddaughter, Amy Weaver; his great granddaughter, Megan Johnson; and his brothers and sisters.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Johnnie Pattat, David Cook, Stevie Holley, Bo Kee, Richard Kee and Robert Kee.
Honorary pallbearers were Billy Barnes, Wilmer Thompson, Alford Thompson, Gary Whittemore, David Holley and Kenney Kee.
