Charlie Thomas Springer, Sr., age 91, longtime resident of the Antioch Community of Fayette County, retired farmer and landowner and US Veteran died Friday, July 2, 2010 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient since May 19th. He was 91 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
A Service of Remembrance for Mr. Springer was conducted at 10 A.M. Monday, July 5 th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel at Somerville with his nephew, Rev. Walter German of Jackson, Tennessee officiating. The Eulogy was given by his niece, Lillie Fletcher of Somerville. Interment, with Military Honors, followed at the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Springer was born November 29, 1918 in Somerville, the son of the late William M. Springer and the late Emmy I. Largent Springer.  He was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was married June 8, 1940 to the former Allie German of Fayette County who survives. Mr. Springer proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United State Army in Japan and the Philippines during WWII period.
A person active for many years in the agricultural, religious and community affairs of Fayette County, Mr. Springer will be remembered for his lifelong love of farming and agriculture. He was a Christian and devoted member of Antioch United Methodist Church where he participated in numerous church activities throughout his life. Mr. Springer formerly served as a member of the Fayette County Road Board and as a Director of the Fayette County Farmers Cooperative. In earlier years, Mr. Springer measured cotton for the local ASCS Office in Fayette County.
In addition to his devoted wife of 70 years, Mr. Springer is survived by two daughters: Patsy Harvey (Harold) of Somerville, Linda Palmer (Brady) of Covington, three sons: Murry Springer (Joan) of Collierville, Charlie Springer, Jr. (Phyllis) of Somerville, Phillip Springer (Brenda) of Somerville, 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were William Lee Harvey, Brian Dwain Parks, Allen Thomas Springer, Eric Anthony Springer, Charlie Thomas Springer, III and Murry Lee Springer, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Barry Hinesley, Thomas Kee, Kenny Payne and Charles Tatum.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Antioch United Methodist Church, 5805 Feathers Chapel Drive, Somerville, TN 38068.
