Charlotte Effie Brasfield Holt, resident of the Moscow Community, retired employee of Montgomery Ward and wife of the late Leroy Holt departed this life Wednesday afternoon, November 13, 2013 at the Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi where she had been a patient for one week. She was 87 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Holt were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, November 15th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. David Parlow, minister of the Oak Grove Baptist Church near Moscow officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Holt was born August 17, 1926 in Maury City, Tennessee in Crockett County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Conis Brasfield and Eva Mae Crutchfield Brasfield. She moved to Memphis as a young person and received her education in the Memphis City Public School System and at Whitehaven High School.
A resident of Bakersfield, California in earlier years, Mrs. Holt lived in California for 40 years and was the wife of the late Leroy Holt, who preceded her in death in 1976. Mrs. Holt had a longtime career with the Montgomery Ward Company, serving as a group merchandiser for the mail order company for over 30 years before her retirement 21 years ago. After her retirement, she returned to the South and had been a resident of the Moscow Community since 2006.
She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church near Moscow and her interests included traveling, bowling and reading. She enjoyed watching television programs in later years that related to law enforcement activities.
Mrs. Holt is survived by her son, Stephen Harry Holt (Parisa) of Roseville, CA; five sisters, Mary Canady of Moscow, Dell Brewer of Moscow, Dot McClure of Moscow, Yvonne Ward of Southaven, MS, Vickie Simonton of Collierville; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Lee Holt Smith; and three brothers, Michael Brasfield, Richard Lloyd Brasfield and Harold Brasfield.
Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Moscow Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 246, Moscow, TN 38057 or the Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 1980 Oak Grove Drive, Moscow, TN 38057.
