Christine (Butner) Ammons

November 11, 1927 — February 5, 2013

Christine Butner Ammons, resident of Cordova, former longtime resident of the Oakland Community and wife of the late Tommy Ammons died Tuesday evening, February 5, 2013 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she was a patient for one day. She was 85 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Ammons were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, February 8th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Pastor Carl Doyle of Oakland officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Ammons was born November 11, 1927 in Ripley, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. Butner and Bonnie Sue Russell Butner. She received her education in the Lauderdale County Public School System and was married in 1947 to Tommy D. Ammons, an Oakland area farmer, landowner and cattleman, who preceded her in death on March 17, 2002.

Mr. and Mrs. Ammons owned and managed their family farming operation in the Oakland area for many years before their retirement and during these years saw many changes that included their property being converted from farming and agriculture to residential homes for the new area residents.

She was a lifelong Baptist and in earlier years was a member of the Woodville Baptist Church and was a member of the Oakland Baptist Church in later years. After the death of Mr. Ammons, she moved to Cordova to be near family members.

Mrs. Ammons is survived by her daughter, Bonnita Renner (Ken) of Oakland; her son, Tim Ammons of Cordova; her brother, Charles Butner of Nesbit, MS; two grandchildren, Mike Renner of Oakland, Kristi Minton of Lakeland; and four great grandchildren.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
