Clara Christine Baker

September 16, 1944 — April 29, 2014

Clara Christine Baker, resident of the Somerville Community and retired food service employee for the Somerville Food & Fuel Convenience Store, departed this life Tuesday evening, April 29, 2014 at the Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Germantown where she had been a patient for three days. She was 69 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Baker will be conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, May 10th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with visitation one hour before services. Interment will be private. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Baker was born September 16, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Baker and Lillian Blankenship Baker. She received her education in the Indianapolis Public School System and had been a resident of the Somerville Community for the past 20 years. She was of the Baptist faith and was employed in food service for much of her life.

She had served as a cook for the Somerville Food & Fuel, known by many as the Phillips 66 Convenience Store in Somerville, for a number of years before her retirement three years ago. In earlier years, she was employed by the Fireside Restaurant in Somerville. Food preparation, puzzles, needlepoint and archery were pastimes that Mrs. Baker enjoyed as long as health permitted.

Mrs. Baker is survived by two daughters, Denise Cannon (Ben) of Franklin, KY, Rebecca Sipes (Ricky) of Somerville; and four grandchildren, Benjamin Cannon, Jennifer Sipes, Dennis Cannon and Christina Sipes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Monzel “Jerri” Baker, Jean Baker Johnson, Mary Baker Wright, Adeal Baker, Joyce Baker, Lillian Baker; and her brother, Mark Edward Grever.
