CLARENCE EDWARD PATTAT, JR., well known resident of Fayette County, former Fayette County Sheriff and retired farmer and land owner died Saturday afternoon,
April 24, 2010 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville. He was 83 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Pattat were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, April 28th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. The officiating were Rev. Ann Bledsoe, Pastor of the Shiloh United Methodist Church and Dr. Kenneth Culver of the Warren Community Church. Interment, with Military Honors, followed in the Hebron Cemetery in the Bethlehem Community of Fayette County. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of Fayette County, Mr. Pattat was born May 1, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents C. E. Pattat, Sr. and Ethel Sims Pattat. He received his education in the Fayette County School System and served in the United States Navy during the World War II period. He was married November 5, 1946 to the former Nina Tapp of Fayette County who preceded him in death on December 2, 2008.
Mr. Pattat served for four terms as Fayette County Sheriff, from 1960 to 1966 and 1972 to 1974. He was a farmer and landowner in Fayette County for much of his life and was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church. An avid University of Memphis Sports Fan, Mr. Pattat will be remembered as a person with a lifelong love of farming and land. He was a resident of Somerville for many years and after retirement returned to the Bethlehem Community where he resided at the time of his death. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed the friendships of many and his kind mannerisms and concern for others endeared him to people from all walks of life.
Mr. Pattat is survived by his son, Eddie Pattat, Longtime Register of Fayette County and his wife Valarie; his sister, Patsy Gaither of Batesville, Arkansas; his brothers: Harold Pattat of Somerville, Billy Pattat of the Bethlehem Community; 9 grandchildren: Jonathan Crook, Jason Crook, Emily Pattat, Penny Porter, Paul Pattat, Kelly Gilrehth, Brad Mason, Jeremy Crook and Sara Pattat; 7 great-grandchildren; his stepmother, Mattie Pattat of Somerville and his son-in-law, Wendell Crook of Somerville.
Mr. Pattat was preceded in death by his daughter, Pam Crook who died in 1981.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Harold Sims Pattat, John Pattat, Bill Pattat, Steve Pattat, Rod Pattat and Len Doyle.
