Clarence L. Taylor, resident of the Somerville Community, United States Army Veteran and husband of Alma Joyce Dowdy Taylor departed this life Tuesday morning, September 3, 2013 at the National Health Care Center in Somerville where he resided for twelve weeks. He was 82 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services for Mr. Taylor will be conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, September 6th at the Liberty Baptist Church in the Laconia Community. A visitation for Mr. Taylor will be from 6 to 8 Thursday evening at the church. Interment with Military Honors will be at the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery and arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Taylor was born November 8, 1930 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Henderson Taylor and Kathrine McNabb Taylor. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married September 26, 1953 to the former Alma Joyce Dowdy, who survives.
Mr. Taylor served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Period. He was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was employed as a local and long distance truck operator for much of his life before his retirement 16 years ago. He was also employed as a police officer in Somerville in earlier years.
Mr. Taylor was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in the Laconia Community and enjoyed hunting, fishing and vegetable gardening. He was a family-oriented person and holidays were a favorite time of the year.
In addition to his wife of almost 60 years, Mr. Taylor is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ferge (Bailey, Jr.) of Somerville, Beverly Hilliard (Jim) of Somerville; his son, Clarence Taylor, Jr. (Denise) of Somerville; his sister, Patricia Cepetelli of Ocala, FL; his brother, Wayne Caldwell of Somerville; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be Chester Pulliam, Wayne Dowdy, Aaron Taylor, James R. "Jim Bob" Ferge, Tyler Hilliard, Mark Roberson and Tim Dowdy.
Honorary casketbearers will be L.A. Rogers, Tom Day, Billy Pattat, Howard Dowdy, Morton Carraway and Ronnie Dowdy.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Liberty Cemetery Association, c/o Reba Dowdy, 900 Railroad Drive, Somerville, TN 38068.
