Clarence William Wooddell was born on August 10, 1928 in Memphis, Tennessee to Clarence Wayne Wooddell and Elsie Louise Carter Wooddell. He was a resident of Raleigh but lived his last few years as a resident of Kirby Pines Nursing and the Bailey Farms Jordan River nursing home where he passed away on April 4, 2023, at the age of 94. Clarence, known to many as “Bubba”, was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Randy Wooddell and his wife, Debbie Jones Wooddell, of Memphis, TN; his granddaughter, Whitney Wooddell Hochstein and her husband, Daniel Hochstein; great-grandchildren, Carter, Harry, Liam and Eleanor May Hochstein; his brother, John Wooddell and his wife, Donna Sue Wooddell of Toone, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Wooddell Beasley.
He received his Electrical Engineering degree at Memphis State University and served his country in the United States Army. Clarence had a full life and was loved by many. He cared for and provided for his family with wisdom and love and especially loved his dog, Roy. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his granddaughter, Whitney, and her family. His great-grandchildren loved spending time with him. He was a mentor to many. His work at Memphis Light and Water for 58 years 5 months and 22 days, proved this!
Clarence enjoyed traveling in the USA, as well as outside the USA to other countries. After retiring, he planted peach and apple trees as a hobby which soon became an orchard on the family’s farm in Fayette County - he was very proud. He was a devoted Christian and attended Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova.
Special thanks to the Kirby Pines/Jordan River nursing staff and to Crossroads Hospice for their care and concern.
