Claude Everett Thornton, age 82, resident of Oakland, Tennessee and husband of Greta Lee Olree Thornton, departed this life Wednesday morning, February 21, 2018 at his residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Thornton were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rick Welty officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in the Hickory Withe Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Thornton was born August 28, 1935 in Memphis, Tennessee. He received his education in the Memphis City School System and served his country in the United States Army. He obtained his journeyman electrical license at the age of 17 through the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 474 and was employed as an electrician for much of his life before his retirement. Mr. Thornton was married May 30, 1962 to the former Greta Lee Olree and was a member of Somerville Church of Christ. He loved God and his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing electrical work, cows and his dog, “Biscuit”.
Mr. Thornton is survived by his wife of 55 years, Greta Lee Olree Thornton of Oakland, TN; two sons, Wesley Thornton (Gloria) of Braden, TN, David Thornton (Angela) of Somerville, TN; four grandchildren, Latisha Dunham (Steve) of Grand Junction, CO, Paige Thornton of The Netherlands, Anthony Thornton (Nicole) of Mountain Home, AR, Nicholas Thornton of Somerville, TN; and five great-grandchildren, Colton Thornton, Evelyn Thornton, Kaleb Neigenfind, Andrew Dunham and Aleesha Dunham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude E. Thornton and Veatrice Whitfield Thornton; his son, Mark Thornton who died in 2005; and three sisters, Mary Lou Gayle, Martha Hurley and Dorthy Nash.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Wesley Thornton, David Thornton, Anthony Thornton, Nicholas Thornton, Colton Thornton and Marvin Hurley.
