Cletus Crook

March 28, 1941 — September 24, 2011

Cletus Crook, longtime resident of the Eads Community, U.S. Veteran and husband of Nadine Crook, departed this life Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2011 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was 70 years of age and died following an illness of several weeks.
Services Honoring the Life of Mr. Crook with Full Military Honors were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, September 28th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Jack Moore of the Fisherville First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Eads Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Crook was born March 28, 1941 in the Stanton Community of Haywood County. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.T. Crook and the late Mamie Johnson Crook. He moved at an early age with his parents to Shelby County and was a graduate of the Collierville High School. He served in the United States Navy as a young person and was married December 12, 1964 to the former Nadine Elrod, an employee of the Shelby County Board of Education, who survives.
Mr. Crook was of the Baptist faith and was a longtime resident of the Eads Community. In earlier years, he was employed by the Chicago Bridge & Iron Company and was later employed by the Road Department of the Shelby County Government for 20 years before his retirement in 2003.
He was known for his love of fishing and hunting and will be remembered as an avid conversationalist who enjoyed fellowshipping with family and friends. Favorite pastimes included softball and special times with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Crook is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Hobbs of Lakeland, two sons, Randy Crook (Peggy) of Olive Branch, MS and Thomas Crook (Lei Ann) of Olive Branch, MS, three sisters, Edith Joyner of Eads, Frances Holden of Eads, Linda Hopkins of Eads, three brothers, Bobby Crook of Eads, Wendell Crook of Somerville, Thurston Crook of Savannah and seven grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Tim Joyner, Steve Joyner, Brian Hopkins, Jonathan Crook, Chris Crook and Donald Haase. Honorary casketbearers were Jeremy Crook, Cory Seward, Cody Johnson and Brandon Johnson.
