Clifton Henley, resident of Memphis, former resident of the Oakland Community and husband of the late Rebecca Lee Hines Henley, departed this life Friday afternoon, May 30, 2014 at his residence. He was 62 years of age and died following an illness of six weeks.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Henley were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, June 6th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Tim Cox, pastor of the Brinkley Heights Baptist Church in Memphis, officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland Town Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Henley was born November 19, 1951 in the Oakland Community of Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Perry and Lily Henley. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System. He was a graduate of the Fayette Ware High School in Somerville and continued his education at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He was married June 23, 1972 to the former Rebecca Lee Hines of Fayette County, who preceded him in death on January 4, 2002.
Mr. Henley was a lifelong resident of Fayette and Shelby Counties and at the time of his death was employed as a rehabilitation counselor for the New Life Baptist Church in Memphis. He will be remembered as a Christian with a special love for his grandchildren and was devoted to his church. Mr. Henley was much loved by his family and friends and served as a caregiver to family members throughout his life.
Mr. Henley is survived by his daughter, Michelle Hines of Memphis; his son, Shawn C. Henley of Memphis; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Chris Henley, Dennis Palmer, Jeremy Vo, Joshua Henley, Cory Miller and Robert Hines.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Oakland Cemetery Association, 3225 Tomlin Road, Somerville, TN 38068.
