Clovis Loy “Arkansas” Williams, resident of the Collierville Community, United States Veteran and husband of the late Edith Burroughs Williams, departed this life Friday morning, August 1, 2014 at the Baptist Trinity Hospice House in Collierville where he resided for two days. He was 92 years of age and died following an illness of three weeks.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Williams were conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, August 6th at the Collierville First Assembly of God with Bro. David Cross, a pastor at First Assembly of God in Memphis and Bro. William Barnes, pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Rossville, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery near Germantown. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel in Somerville.
Mr. Williams was born September 7, 1921 in Marietta, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Alfred Williams and Iva Berta Yager Williams. He received his education in the Prentiss County, Mississippi Public School System and was the husband of the former Edith Burroughs, who preceded him in death. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during the World War II Period and during the Korean War Period.
Mr. Williams was employed with the Marshall County, Mississippi Road Service as a heavy equipment operator for 12 years before his retirement. He had been a resident of Collierville for seven years and was a member of the Collierville First Assembly of God. He enjoyed refurbishing tractors, clocks and pocket knives and was known by many as the “Tractor Man”.
Mr. Williams is survived by three daughters, Wilma Young (David) of Byhalia, MS, Pam Wilson (Ben) of Collierville, Tonya Pugh (Larry) of Piperton; his son, Keith Williams of Byhalia, MS; his brother, Nolan Williams of Wynne, AR, Olen Williams (Cora Lee) of Apache Junction, AZ; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve at casketbearers were Michael Putt, Scott Putt, Taylor Putt, Stephen Wilson, Tim Williams and Zachary Pugh.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Baptist Trinity Hospice House, 1520 W. Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN 38017.
