Clyde Hess Buffaloe, Jr.

Clyde Hess Buffaloe, Jr., longtime resident of the Somerville Community, retired owner of Buff Electric and United States Veteran died Sunday evening, December 26, 2010 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville where he had been a resident for the past month. He was 86 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral Services for Mr. Buffaloe were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Somerville First Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Lovelace of  Brownsville, former pastor of the church, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Buffaloe was born in Greenville, South Carolina on July 9, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Hess Buffaloe, Sr. and Annie Lee Hill Buffaloe. He moved at an early age with his family to Fayette County and received his education in the Fayette County Public School System. Mr. Buffaloe served his country with distinction in the United States Navy during the WWI period from 1941 to 1945. During this time he served aboard the USS Yorktown during the Battle of Midway and Coral Sea (Pacific Theatre ) .

Mr. Buffaloe was married May 11, 1946 the former Lillian Roberson of Fayette County, who survives. He had been a resident of Fayette County for eighty-two years and was the owner of Buff Electric in Somerville for many years before his retirement. In later years Mr. and Mrs. Buffaloe served as managers of the Bluegrass Village Apartments in Somerville.

A devoted member of the Somerville First Baptist Church for over sixty-five years, Mr. Buffaloe served as a Church Deacon and participated in numerous church activities as long as health permitted. He and Mrs. Buffaloe served as coordinators many of the senior activities of the Church with pleasant memories of numerous trips for the “Seniors” of the Church family.

He will be remembered for his pleasant disposition and for his willingness to help others with their heating and air conditioning needs regardless of the hour or weather conditions. Mr. Buffaloe was member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post and attended reunions for the U.S.S. Yorktown CV-5 Club, returning to Hawaii on three occasions after his military service.

In addition to his wife of sixty-five years, Mr. Buffaloe is survived by his daughter, Teresa Dale Terry of Somerville; his son, Clyde H. Buffaloe, III (Joy) of Somerville; his sisters, Beatrice Massey of Somerville, Mary Hillman of Somerville, Betty Ann Chambers of Somerville, Jeanette Hampton of Memphis; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Those honored to serve pallbearers were the Deacons of the Somerville First Baptist Church and honorary pallbearers were Kelly Green, Mike Kee and Joel Rigsby.
