Cordelia (Hamby) Wright

March 10, 1918 — November 7, 2012

Cordelia Hamby Wright, longtime resident of the Gallaway Community and wife of the late William E. Wright died Wednesday afternoon, November 7, 2012 at the Gallaway Healthcare Center where she had resided for several years. She was 94 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Wright were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, November 10th at the Graveside. The officiating minister was her son, Rev. Jim Griffith, pastor of the Faith United Methodist Church in Henning, Tennessee. Interment followed in the Walls Cemetery at Braden. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Wright was born March 10, 1918 in the Mason Community of Tipton County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Edwin Hamby. She received her education in the Tipton County Public School System and the Byars Hall High School in Covington. Mrs. Wright was a devoted homemaker throughout her life and a lifelong resident of Tipton and Fayette counties.

She was a longtime Methodist and was a member of the Gallaway United Methodist Church in earlier years and the Arlington United Methodist Church at the time of her death. Gardening and outdoor activities were pleasures as long as health permitted. Mrs. Wright will be remembered for her devotion and love for her family, her church and her community.

Mrs. Wright is survived by two daughters, Sandra McCulley (Jimmie) of Gallaway, Linda Perry of Bartlett; her son, Rev. Jim Griffith (Margaret) of Henning; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Smith.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
