Cynthia Ann Potter Doherty, resident of the Oakland Community, wife of Ken Doherty and former 911 Emergency Police Dispatcher, departed this life on Wednesday morning April 4, 2012 at her residence. She was 65 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Doherty were conducted at 7 PM Saturday, April 7th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Shawn Snyder, Associate Minister of the Macon Road Baptist Church in Memphis, officiating. Interment was private. Arrangements were provided by the Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center – West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Doherty was born September 28, 1946 in Texarkana, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Leon Potter and Marjorie Nix Potter. She moved with her family to Blytheville, Arkansas at an early age and received her education in the Arkansas Public School System. She was a former resident of Mississippi County, Arkansas and served as a Certified 911 Emergency Police Dispatcher for the Arkansas State Police in the Blytheville area for a number of years. She was also a licensed professional cosmetologist and had been a resident of Fayette County for the past 9 years.
Mrs. Doherty was married October 18, 1998 to Kenneth Aaron (Ken) Doherty, a retired U.S. Marine Corps Veteran who is now employed as a corporate pilot and flight instructor. She was a Christian and enjoyed special times with her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Doherty is survived by her husband; 3 step-daughters, Lisa Ann Layland of Henderson, Nevada, Kristin Boehme of Phoenix, Arizona and Tracie Mobley who lives in Germany. She is survived by one sister, Kim Warenfelds of Blytheville and one brother, Jerry Lee Potter of Blytheville and nine grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Fayette County Chapter of the American Heart Association, 2170 Business Center Drive #1, Bartlett, TN 38134.
