Daniel Leslie “Cowboy” Cole, age 73, resident of Oakland and husband of the late Ora Belle “Gabby” Purdue Cole, departed this life Thursday evening, December 29, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Cole were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. David Reeves, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Perry Cemetery near Laconia. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Cole was born September 8, 1943 in Egremont, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Rolling Fork High School Class of 1962 and served in the United States Army National Guard as a young person. He was a resident of the District 15 area of Fayette County for 32 years and was married July 2, 1971 to the former Ora Belle “Gabby” Purdue. Mr. Cole was of the Baptist faith and was a cattle horse farmer throughout his life. He enjoyed roping and riding horses, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Cole is survived by three daughters, Joyce Ann Cole (Gary) of Oakland, TN, Leslie Cannon (Curtis) of Somerville, TN, Shelley Prather (Todd) of Verdigris, OK; his sister, Linda Kay Jenkins (David) of Greenwood, MS; two brothers, Billy Ed Cole (Dorothy) of West Point, MS, Harry Conrad “Sonny” Cole, Jr. (Dot) of Baldwyn, MS; five grandchildren, Cheyanne Lykins, Britanie Neal (Sam), Seanna Evans (Robbie), Shelby Prather, Dustin Coulston; four great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Belle “Gabby” Purdue Cole who died May 22, 2015; his parents, Harry Conrad Cole, Sr. and Blanch Beatrice Sanderford Cole; two brothers, Wayne Cole, Jimmy Cole; and his grandson, Matthew Dillon Cole.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Micheal Lykins, James Owens, Jr., Samuel Neal, Paul Cannon, Martin “Tripp” Knight III and Bubba White. Honorary pallbearers were James Owens, Sr., Floyd Glover and Dennis Cannon.
