David Dwaine Dowdy resident of the Collierville Community with extended family members in Fayette County and United States Veteran died Tuesday afternoon, February 8, 2011 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville where he had been a patient for four weeks. He was 52 years of age and died following a four month illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Dowdy were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, February 12 th at Collierville United Methodist Church located on the Collierville Square with Rev. David Weatherly, Senior Associate Pastor of the Church officiating. Private interment at a later date will be in the Eastview Cemetery at Camden, TN. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Dowdy was born April 1, 1958 in Memphis, TN to Sara Kay Hatley Dowdy and Morgan Lee Dowdy, Jr. He was a 1976 graduate of Collierville High School and served in the United States Marine Corps in earlier years. Mr. Dowdy was employed by Star Electric Company in Collierville for a number years before retiring for health reasons.
He was a member of the Collierville United Methodist Church and a lifelong resident of Collierville area. Mr. Dowdy’s interests included playing football and baseball in earlier years, caring for his yard and enjoying the companionship of his pet dog, Millie.
Survivors of Mr. Dowdy include his mother: Sara Kay Hatley Dowdy of Collierville; his sister: Pamela K. Hill (Bill) of Olive Branch, MS; his brother: Morgan Lee Dowdy, III (Carolyn) of Dallas, Georgia and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Dowdy was preceded in death by his father, Morgan Lee Dowdy, Jr.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Collierville United Methodist Church, 454 West Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN 38017.
