DAVID GERMAN

March 19, 1960 — October 18, 2009

JOHN DAVID GERMAN, a resident of Somerville and native Fayette Countian died October 18, 2009 at the Haywood Park Community Hospital in Brownsville where he had been a patient for seven days. He was 49 years of age and died following a year-long illness.

Funeral services for Mr. German were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, October 21st at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Freddie Clifft, Pastor of the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery of the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. German was born in Fayette County on March 19, 1960. He was preceded in death by his parents, William David "Buddy" German and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Crafton German.

He was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was employed as a Residential Carpenter in the Fayette County area for much of his life.

He was of the Methodist faith and will be remembered by his family and friends as a person who enjoyed music and playing the guitar. His other interests included hunting and fishing.

Survivors of Mr. German include his former wife, Barbara McGarr Motley of Somerville; two sons, Shane German of Jackson, TN and Anthony German of Somerville; four sisters: Barbara Ann McCulley of Brownsville; Mary Elizabeth Curran and Brenda Henley, both of Somerville and Janis Doering of Charlotte, NC; three brothers: Marvin "Acy" German of Moscow; Carl Allen German of Drummonds, TN and Winston Wayne German of Somerville and five grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Brandon German on October 1, 2000 and two brothers, James William German and Robert Earl German.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Jason German, Roy Neil German, Rodney Gruthoff, Jerry Lee Howard, Adam King, Scottie King and Steven Scheibe.
