David Francis Holden, lifelong resident of the Somerville Community and husband of the late Naomi Parks Holden departed this life Monday morning, December 2, 2013 in the comfort of his home on Holden Drive where he had resided for many years. He was 88 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Holden were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, December 4th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Ken Burnette, pastor of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church in District 15 officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Parks Chapel Cemetery in the District 15 Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Holden was born December 10, 1924 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Holden and Freddie Irwin Holden, longtime residents of the District 15 Community. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and served his country in the United States Army in France and Germany during the World War II Period.
Mr. Holden was married April 14, 1946 to the former Mary Naomi Parks, of Fayette County, a retired bookkeeper, who preceded him in death on February 21, 2004 after 58 years of marriage. He had a lifelong love for farming and Fayette County. In earlier years, he was also employed as a mechanic for the school bus garage of the Fayette County Board of Education. He was a longtime member of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mr. Holden was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and enjoyed outdoor activities that included hunting and fishing. Feeding fish on his family farm pond and caring for his cattle were things that he received pleasure from. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Holden is survived by two daughters, Nancy Hailey (Johnny) of Somerville, Kathy Waddell (Lee) of Somerville; nine grandchildren, Scott Waddell, Emily Diver, Rebecca Douglas, Troy Bray, Amy Bray, Kevin Holden, Tavis Holden, Cody Holden, Blaine Holden; and fourteen great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Johnny Hailey, Scott Waddell, Justin West, Steve Newton, David Voyles and Danny Parker. Honorary casketbearers included Carl Murrell Parks.
