David Reid King
April 24, 1921 — January 12, 2015
David Reid King, age 93, resident of the Oakland Community, United States World War II Veteran and husband of Evelyn King, departed this life Monday morning, January 12, 2015 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. King were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, January 15th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Personal remarks were given by Shirley Graham and Bro. Robert Gross. Interment followed in the Forest Hill East Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. King was born April 24, 1921 in Denmark, Tennessee. He received his education in the Madison County Public School System and was the owner of an automotive mechanic shop in Memphis for many years before his retirement. He served his country during the World War II Period and was a former resident of Memphis before moving to Oakland in 2003. He was married May 24, 2003 to the former Evelyn Hughes, who survives. Mr. King was a member of the Family Tabernacle Church of God in Memphis and enjoved traveling, fishing and cookouts with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. King is survived by three daughters, Debbie Doyle (Len) of Somerville, Wanda Story of Camden, TN, Donna Cox of Brighton, TN; his son, Tommy Crook (Sherry) of Arlington, TN; his brother, Curtis King (Pat) of Humboldt, TN; his niece, Martha Dutton (Paul) of Florida; two nephews, George England (Kathy) of Florida, Stanley England of Georgia; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Cory Doyle, Clint Doyle, Jeffrey Crook, George England, Paul Dutton and Cory Doyle, Jr.
Honorary casketbearers were Len Doyle, Charles Hughes, Jimmy Lacks and Phillip Peeler.
