DAVID BURR PEWITT, a resident of the Collierville Community, retired Golf Course Superintendent and Landscaper died at 6 A.M. Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville. He was 62 years of age and died following an illness of several weeks.
Funeral services for Mr. Pewitt were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, April 5th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. David Smith of the Forest Hill Community Church in Memphis, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Larry Butler, Pastor of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Barton, Mississippi. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Pewitt was born July 16, 1946 in Williamson County Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas H. Pewitt and Emma Ruth Price Pewitt. He received his education in the Williamson County Public School System and was a graduate of the Franklin High School at Franklin, Tennessee.
He was married January 20, 1968 to the former Brenda Bradford, also of Williamson County, who survives.
An avid golfer, Mr. Pewitt received much satisfaction from his vocation as a Golf Course Superintendent, and worked in areas that included Memphis, Chattanooga and Nashville throughout his life.
He had been a resident of West Tennessee since 1986 and had been a resident of the Collierville Community since 1993 where he was associated with his family in the operation of the family landscaping business, Turf Technology & Landscaping located in Collierville.
He was a University of Tennessee Athletic fan and he enjoyed the companionship of his pet Chihuahua, "Little Bit".
Mr. Pewitt was of the Baptist faith and was devoted to his family with a special closeness to his beloved grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of forty-one years, Mr. Pewitt is survived by his daughter, Jaime Hayes (Steve) of Bartlett; his son, David Scott Pewitt (Yolonda) of Moscow; two sisters, Mildred Rediker and Lucille Smithson, both of Franklin, TN; one brother, William Pewitt of Franklin, TN and three grandchildren: Jeremy David Pewitt, Steven Wayne Hayes and Abigail Faith (Abby) Hayes.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin Pewitt.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Kenny Ice, Larry Smith, John Crist, Scott Pewitt, Steven Hayes, Steve Hayes, Pat Pewitt and Ray Rediker.
