David Anthony Wright, age 68, resident of the Rossville Community, United States Army Vietnam Veteran and husband of Sandra Mansfield Wright, departed this life Wednesday morning, February 18, 2015 at his residence.
A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors for Mr. Wright was conducted at 4 P.M. Saturday, February 21st at the Rossville United Methodist Church. The officiating ministers were Dr. Roger Joseph and Rev. Ted Wright. Special music was provided by Debbie Kines, soloist and Ginger Hendrick, pianist. Interment was private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Wright was born November 29, 1946 in Cleveland, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Wright and Melissa Yarbrough Wright. He received his education in the Greenville, Mississippi Public School System. He served his country as a Corporal for the 101st Airborne in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Period, where he was a Purple Heart recipient.
Mr. Wright worked for Roadway as a truck operator for over 30 years and served as a member of the Tennessee Road Team and America's Road Team as a spokeman for the trucking industry. He was also a published author of River Rock, a fictional novel. He was married June 8, 1996 to the former Sandra Mansfield, who survives. He was an active member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.
In addition to his wife of 18 years, Mr. Wright is survived by three daughters, Melissa Keeton of Florence, AL, Karen Shelton (Jeff) of Collierville, Kristi Baird (Brian) of Rossville; his son, Ted Wright (Kathy) of Charlotte, NC; two sister, Peggy Grosse (Sam) of Greenville, MS, Molly Young of Mobile, AL; three brothers, James Wright, Gerald Wright, Stanley Wright of Greenville, MS; thirteen grandchildren, Molly Norris, Jacob Keeton, Ian Wright, Christopher Baird, Alex Baird, Sam Baird, Emily Milam, Katie Milam, Austin Milam, Abigail Shelton, Anna Shelton, Julia Hughes, Cole Stonebrook; and his great grandson, Tony Milam.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Wright.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Rossville United Methodist Church Building Fund, 56 Main Street, Rossville, TN 38066.
