Deborah McAlpin

December 20, 1952 — May 28, 2012

Deborah Lindsey Shields McAlpin, resident of the Bolivar Community with family members throughout West Tennessee and wife of Terry G. McAlpin died Monday morning, May 28, 2012 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where she had been a patient three weeks. She was 59 years of age and died following an extended illness.

At the request of Mrs. McAlpin, all services and interment will be private. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. McAlpin was born December 20, 1952 in Hardeman County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Shields and Opal Irwin Shields. She received her education in the Hardeman County School System and was a graduate of the Bolivar Central High School. She was a homemaker throughout her life and was also employed by area garment companies for a number of years.

She and her husband formerly operated a pet kennel in Bolivar as long as health permitted. Mrs. McAlpin was a member of the Dixie Hills Baptist Church in Hardeman County and was married April 19, 1973 to Terry G. McAlpin, of Hardeman County and oil field employee before his retirement. Mrs. McAlpin will be remembered as a family-oriented person who was an avid reader. She had received love and care during her illness from her stepmother, Mrs. Mildred Shields.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. McAlpin is survived by her daughter, Kerrie Elizabeth Whiteker of Jackson, TN; her son, Benjamin “Benjie” Howard King of Toone, TN; two sisters, Pat Berkley of Pinson, TN, Vicki Head formerly of Selmer, TN; and six grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Hardeman County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 507, Bolivar, TN 38008.
