Dell Rose Whitley Thompson, age 60, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of Thomas "Tommy" Thompson, departed this life Monday morning, September 22, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Thompson were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, September 26th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Terry Hoff, a pastor at Hope Presbyterian Church in Cordova, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Thompson was born September 29, 1953 in Selmer, Tennessee, the daughter of the former Ellen Odell Hornbuckle and the late William Ward Whitley. She received her education in the Collierville Public School System and served as an accountant supervisor for Cannon & Company in Memphis for 24 years before her retirement in 2011. She was married April 28, 2007 to Thomas "Tommy" Thompson, who survives.
Mrs. Thompson was a resident of the Somerville Community for 3 1/2 years and was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Cordova. She enjoyed reading, hummingbirds, traveling, movies, fishing and flower gardening. Mrs. Thompson "loved her coffee" and her two puppies, Brandy and Coco.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Thompson is survived by three daughters, Melissa Ellen Hartman of Cordova, Tammy McKnight (David) of Bartlett, Sharon Johnston (Robert) of Somerville; her mother, Ellen O. Ackermann of Memphis; her brother, Jeffrey Richard Gibson of West Palm Beach, FL; her step-sister, Angel Norman (Kim) of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Ashley Posey, Duane Sam Hartman III, Thomas Johnston, Robert Johnston III; and five great grandchildren, Kamryn Hartman, Karmen Hartman, Gracyn Posey, Kali Hartman and Oaklen Posey.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Joel Posey, David McKnight, Sam Hartman, Robert Johnston II, Thomas Johnston and Robert Johnston III.
Honorary casketbearers were Shelby Stafford and James Thompson.
