Deo Ruiz
1930—2010
Deogracias Toledo “Deo” Ruiz, resident of Memphis with extended family members in Fayette County, U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from the Shelby County Sherriff’s Department died Monday December 13, 2010 at his residence. He was 80 years of age and died unexpectedly.
Funeral services for Mr. Ruiz were conducted at 11 A.M. Tuesday, December 21

at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Isaac Johnson, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of the Republic of Philippines, Mr. Ruiz was born on November 27, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Quirine Ruiz and Pacencia Toledo. He was educated in the Philippines and married in 1957 the former Mary Kathleen McMillan, retired Bellsouth employee, who survives.
Mr. Ruiz served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and in younger years he worked as a Barber. He was employed with the Shelby County Sherriff’s Office for over twenty years as a Deputy Jailer before his retirement.
A Catholic, Mr. Ruiz will be remembered for his enjoyment in working on automobiles, reading law books and for collecting antiques.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ruiz is survived by his brother Manuel Ruiz and his niece, Terri Rieben and many extended family members in Somerville and Oakland areas.
