DOLLIE GANN GERMAN

May 23, 1936 — January 6, 2010

DOLLIE GANN GERMAN, resident of the Somerville Community and native Fayette Countian died Wednesday morning, January 6, 2010 at her residence. She was 73 years of age and died following a two-year illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. German were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, January 8th at the Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville with Rev. John Ed Watkins, Pastor of the church, officiating. Special music was provided by family members and friends with a vocal selection rendered  by a grandson, Shelton. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community near Somerville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. German was born in Fayette County on May 23, 1936. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Gann and Mattie Gammell Gann.

She was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a longtime resident of the Memphis and Somerville areas.

She was a devoted member of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church with a special love for the Music Ministry of the church.

She was an employee of the former Dow Corning Company in Arlington for twenty years before her retirement six years ago. After her retirement she was employed at the former Fireside Restaurant in Somerville where she enjoyed preparing food for her many loyal customers and friends.

Special times with her grandchildren and family were an important part of Mrs. German's life.

Favorite pastimes included growing plants and listening to gospel music.

Survivors of Mrs. German include four daughters: Donna Bridgewater and Rhonda Stiles, both of Somerville and Betty Burgess and Sandra Dawson, both of Memphis; three sons: Paul Houston of Bartlett, Richard Houston of Memphis and Stevie Houston of Southaven; her brother, James Gann of Somerville; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Rick Campbell, Paul Houston, Jerry Dean Watkins, Joe Watkins, Leon Watkins, and Mike Watkins.

Wayne Hampton, Mike Roberts, Lee Woods and Mike Woods were honorary casket bearers.
