DONALD DEE "DON" WALLS, a resident of the District 15 Community of Fayette County, retired Meat Cutter and husband of Nancy Walls died at 7:15 A.M. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at his home on Armour Drive. He was 73 years of age and died following an extended illness of several months.
Funeral services for Mr. Walls were conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, January 10th at Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Chaplain Richard Kilpatrick, of the Caris Hospice Organization in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Walls was born April 7, 1935 in Kistler West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents Tennis Walls and Juanita Adkins Walls. He was educated in the South Man, West Virginia Public School System and was married on June 7, 1972 to the former Nancy Ledbetter, his devoted wife of thirty-six years who survives.
Mr. Walls and his family were former residents of Chicago, Illinois, and Sanford, Florida, before moving to Fayette County thirteen years ago to live near extended family members. He served as a Professional Meat Cutter throughout his life and was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union for many years. Mr. Walls was employed in the Meat Department of the Kroger Company for over twenty-seven years before retiring three years ago.
He was of the Baptist Faith and his interests included boating, fishing, camping, out of door activities and all water sports. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and a loving father with a special closeness to his youngest daughter, Misty.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Walls is survived by four daughters: Rhonda Walls of Evansville, IN; Regina McCraw of Indianapolis, IN; Kim Edwards of Altamont Springs, FL and Misty Walls of Somerville; three sons: Ronnie Walls and Randy Walls, both of Orange County, California and Jeff Edwards of Joelton, TN; five sisters: Conda Lee Gates of Longwood, FL; Nora Fryer of Memphis; Gloria Yarbrough of Somerville; Wanda Gladden of Winter Park, FL and Lelia Cochran of Sanford, FL; several grand and great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Robbie Walls.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Greg O'Brian, Chris Porter, Buddy Porterfield, Robert Wilkins and James Raymond.
