Donald Carroll (Don) Nanney, resident of the Hickory Withe Community, retired salesperson for the H.T. Hackney Company and husband of Marcia Nanney died Friday evening, September 28, 2012 at Reelfoot Lake near Tiptonville. He was 65 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Nanney was conducted at 1 P.M. Tuesday, October 2nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Michael Pence of the Faith United Methodist Church in Oakland, officiating. Personal remarks and reflections were given by Marcia Nanney, David Nanney and J.R. Sandefer. Special music was provided by Samantha Pence and Todd Pulse. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Nanney was born April 1, 1947 in Martin, Tennessee, the son of Frances Jean Robertson Nanney and the late Cecil Carroll Nanney. He received his education in the Martin Public School System and was a 1965 graduate of the Martin High School. He continued his education and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Martin. He was employed as a salesperson for the H.T. Hackney Company in Covington for 35 years before his retirement and had been a resident of the Hickory Withe Community for the past 18 years.
Mr. Nanney was married July 9, 1994 to the former Marcia Robbins, retired school teacher, who survives. Mr. Nanney was an active member at the Faith United Methodist Church in Oakland and enjoyed fishing, gardening, landscaping and woodworking. Cooking and eating at fine food restaurants were some of his favorite pastimes.
In addition to his wife of 18 years, Mr. Nanney is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Watkins (William) of Bartlett; three sons, Douglass Nanney of Cordova, David Nanney (Shannon) of Memphis, Scott Pangle (Nicole) of Granbury, TX; his mother, Frances “Mama Nanney” Nanney of Martin; three brothers, Danny Nanney (Cathy) of Martin, Michael Nanney (Claudia) of Martin, Ricky Nanney (Rene) of Martin; six grandchildren, Christopher Nanney, Michael McBride, Allison McBride, Spencer Pangle, Grant Pangle, Logan Weems; and four great grandchildren, Isabella Irby, Brianna McBride, Dalton Bromley and David Bromley.
Honorary casketbearers were J.R. Sandefer, Johnathan Michael Nanney, Richard Shawn Nanney, Gregory Redmon Nanney, Bradley Thomas Nanney, Hunter Robertson Nanney, Danny Thomas Brooks and William Keith Wainscott.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Faith United Methodist Church, 6270 U.S. Highway 64, Oakland, TN 38060.
