DONALD WAYNE SHIPLEY
December 1, 1958 — August 6, 2008
DONALD WAYNE SHIPLEY, a resident of the Galloway Community and longtime area Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor, died at 12:10 P.M. Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where he was taken after becoming suddenly ill at his residence. He was 49 years of age and died unexpectedly.
Funeral services for Mr. Shipley were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, August 9th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with the Rev. Marvin Woods of Bolivar, officiating. Special remarks were given by a daughter, Tina Dedon. Interment followed in the Concord Cemetery near the Gates Community of Lauderdale County, TN. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Shipley was born December 1, 1958 in Memphis, the son of the late Warren G. Shipley and the late Ora Perkins Shipley. He was educated in the Shelby County Public School System and was a former resident of Arlington and Memphis before moving to the Galloway Community 20 years ago. He was married March 25, 1977 to the former Jo Anne Newman of Memphis, who survives.
Mr. Shipley was a self-employed H.V.A.C. Technician and Sub-Contractor in the Shelby and Fayette County areas for much of his life and remained active until his death. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church at Bartlett and he will be remembered as a person who enjoyed Nascar racing, animals, outdoor activities and special times with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Tina Dedon (Jonathan) of Slidell, LA and Kristy Ragsdale (Christopher) of Munford, TN; his sister, Jeanette Stewart of Memphis and four grandchildren: Justice and Tristan Dedon and Morgan and Gracie Ragsdale.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Chip Childers, Kenny McCain, Roy McDaniels, Elmo McDonald, Roland Perkins and Ronnie Williams.
