Donald "Don" Joyner

Donald Ray “Don” Joyner, resident of the Moscow Community and United States Veteran, departed this life Sunday morning, January 5, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for 17 days. He was 65 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Joyner were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, January 9th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Jim Perry of Moscow officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Joyner was born September 26, 1948 in Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert W. “Bud” Joyner and Mable E. Smith Joyner. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Period. Mr. Joyner had been involved in the construction industry for over 40 years before his retirement five years ago.

He was of the Baptist faith and will be remembered as a giving person with a smiling disposition. Mr. Joyner will be remembered as a person with a helping hand to others and was a familiar figure at Canale Grocery and Deli. He was also associated with his brother-in-law, Dale Carpenter, in the Dale Carpenter Painting Contractors before his retirement. He enjoyed outdoor activites that included fishing, boating and caring for his lawn. Caring for his pet canines, Dixie and Carly, gave him much pleasure.

Mr. Joyner is survived by his wife, Betty Wyatt Joyner; his daughter, Kim Ann Joyner of Portland, OR; two sons, Donny Joyner of Moscow, Corey Joyner of Orange, TX; two stepsons, Jeff Wyatt of Memphis, Mike Wyatt of Arkansas; three sisters, Clara Patrick (Paul) of Moscow, Pat Carpenter (Dale) of Moscow, Charlotte Joyner (Dan Bowser, fiancee) of Carmel, IN; two brothers, Sam Joyner of Fisherville, Tommy Joyner of Memphis; ten grandchildren, Morgan Wyatt, Brandon Moore, Aubreyanne Moore, Hunter Joyner, Hannah Joyner, Joseph Joyner, Michael Wyatt, Scotty Wyatt, Cameron Wyatt, Daniel Wyatt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Joyner was preceded in death by his brother, Luster Joyner.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers Zach Joyner, Dustin Joyner, Warren Scott, Vic Vaden, Rick Gonyaw and Aaron Gonyaw.
