Donald Frank "Root" Robbins

Donald Frank “Root” Robbins, age 66, resident of the Somerville Community, U.S. Army Veteran and retired Electrician, departed this life Saturday morning, February 14, 2015 at his residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Robbins were conducted at 1 P.M. Tuesday, February 17th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Stan McDaniel, pastor of the Somerville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Robbins was born June 19, 1948 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frank Robbins and Mag Ola Goodman Robbins. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School Class of 1967. He was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was employed as an electrician for over 30 years. He worked at Second Star Electric in Collierville and First Metro Electric in Byhalia, Mississippi before his retirement.

Mr. Robbins served his country in the United States Army during peace time and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Somerville. He enjoyed playing football and baseball in earlier years and going to car shows, car races and special times with his daughter, Sarah.

Mr. Robbins is survived by his daughter, Sarah Lynn Clements of Somerville; two stepdaughters, Brandy Clements of Williston, April Thompson of Somerville; three sisters, Birdie Doyle (Haywood) of Memphis, Alice Holden (Horace) of Somerville, Donna Leake (Lawrence) of Moscow; five brothers, Sammy Robbins (Mary Alice) of Byhalia, MS, Jimmy Robbins (Marie) of Mason, David Robbins (Nancy) of Hayti, MO, Danny Robbins of Somerville, Jessie Ray Robbins (Brenda) of Oakland; and four grandchildren, James Michael Clements, Destiney Hendrix, Daniel Blake Thompson and Tony McCulley, Jr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Price, Barbara Doyle; and his brother, John Robbins.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Tim Holden, Brandon Robbins, Eddie Roberts, Wayne Robbins, Donald (D.J.) Johnson and Dennis Hunsucker.

Honorary casketbearers were Johnny Sprayberry, Adam Gist and Mark Hunsucker.
