DORIS MARIE FEATHERS GRAVES, a resident of the Millington Community and wife of James Graves died at 8:10 A.M. Saturday, January 10, 2009 at her Millington home. She was 65 years of age and died following a three-year extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Graves were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, January 13th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with her nephew, Rev. Gary Maze, Pastor of the Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, MS, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64 at Oakland. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Graves was born September 1, 1943 in Slayden, Mississippi the daughter of the late Billy Feathers and the late Eunice Gammons Feathers. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville.
She was married June 12, 1961 to James Graves, who survives. She was a former resident of Fayette County and had been a resident of the Millington Community for the past thirteen years.
A devoted homemaker and caregiver throughout her life, Mrs. Graves will be remembered as a spiritual person who dedicated her life to her heavenly Father, her family and her church. She was a longtime member of the Church of God and her favorite pastimes included flower gardening, the feeding of the many birds that frequented her yard, gardening and most of all, the tender love that she gave to her grandchildren.
Animals were an important part of Mrs. Graves' life, and she held a special affection for her canine friend, "Pepper".
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Graves is survived by her daughter, Theresa Balentine (Jeff) of Atoka; three sons: Michael Graves and Steven Graves, both of Millington and Tony Graves (Debbie) of Memphis; her sister, Yvonne Black of Madison, MS; her brother, Ennis Feathers of Brandon, MS and six grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers included Ronnie Hurley, David Black, Dennis Feathers, Brent Feathers, Norlin Perry and Kim Perry.
