Dorothy “Dot” Howell Barbour, resident of the Arlington Community, retired employee of TBC Corporation in Memphis and wife of Dave Barbour departed this life peacefully Sunday morning, July 1, 2012 at her residence. She was 71 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Barbour were conducted at 11 A.M. Thursday, July 5th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Brooks Cochran of Dickson, Tennessee officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Barbour was born February 13, 1941 in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tansil Howell and Gladys Barnett Howell. She received her education in the Memphis City Public School Systems and was a graduate of Messick High School in Memphis. Mrs. Barbour was married July 5, 1959 to David H. “Dave” Barbour, a longtime employee of the Whitco Chemical Company in Memphis, who survives.
Mrs. Barbour was a member of the Church of Christ at Macon and was employed in the accounting department of the TBC Corporation in Memphis for over 30 years before her retirement in 1996. She was a former resident of Memphis and had been a resident of the Arlington Community for the past 22 years. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and aunt who was devoted to her family.
In addition to her husband of over 50 years, Mrs. Barbour is survived by two daughters, Deborah Pafford (John) of Eads, Dianna Barbour of Arlington; two sons, David Barbour (Lori) of Oakland, Dennis Barbour (Kara) of Lakeland; her sister, Rebecca Howell Hornsby of Winston-Salem, NC; and three grandchildren, David Ray Barbour (Anna) of Germantown, Sarah Barbour of Oakland and Mackenzie Barbour of Lakeland.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were David Ray Barbour, Scott Ferguson, Clay Howard, John Pafford, Gary Perkins & Raines Sojourner.
