Dorothy Ann Smith Byrd of Mason, Tennessee passed away peacefully at her home on Monday morning, September 17, 2018. She passed away after a long illness. Dorothy was born in Fayette County on September 14, 1932 to Eural and Ora Clutts Smith who preceded her in death. She attended and graduated Fayette County High School and Tennessee Technological School in Covington, Tennessee.  She was married to Dalton Byrd on Valentine’s Day 1953. They later moved to Memphis where she worked at the Federal Reserve and then Sears.

The family moved back to Fayette County in 1966 and she began a career with the Department of Human Services as an Eligibility Counselor, helping those who needed assistance with nursing home care. She later retired from DHS and traveled with her husband and spent time with her family. Dorothy was active in Ebenezer Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was a soft-spoken person who was kind, enjoyed visiting with family, and well known for her delicious pecan pies and desserts.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Dalton Byrd in July of 2017. She grieved and missed him tremendously. Also preceding her were her parents, Eural and Ora Clutts Smith and a sister, Linda Gail Smith. Dorothy is survived by her son, Kevin Byrd (Carrie) of Brownsville and her daughter, Amye Wininger (Troy) of Bartlett. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Hollie Wilson (Skill) of Somerville, Nick Thomas (Meghan) of Williston, Taylor Thomas of Bartlett, Jessica Brooks (Careg) of Nashville, Jayce Brooks and Justin Brooks of Brownsville and Rebecca Byrd (Jordan) of Mason. She also is survived by her great-grandchildren, Hunter Tipler, Keegan, Kelsi and Greaves Wilson, Jacob, Jaden and Jordan Byrd and Solomon Bonner.

Funeral Services were held at 10 A.M. Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel. Interment followed in the Belmont Cemetery at Mason. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Pallbearers were Kevin Byrd, Mark Funk, Skill Wilson, Greaves Wilson, Dickey Byrd and Nick Thomas.
