Dorothy Jean Clayton Hopkins, age 96, passed away peacefully in her home on September 25, 2024. In her last days she was surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born to the late Earl and Annie Clayton on September 13, 1928 in Collierville, Tennessee. She was a life-long member of Collierville First Baptist Church and a graduate of Collierville High School. On March 14, 1947, she married the love of her life, Paul Phillip Hopkins and they enjoyed 31 years of marriage, until his death in 1978. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of caring for her family, participating in various community clubs, teaching Sunday School, cooking and baking, and supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s school activities. She was devoted to her church and spent many volunteer hours teaching Sunday School, acting as President of the WMU, and heading the church’s campaign for Operation Christmas Child, sending shoeboxes of necessities to children in need around the world. In her later years, she crafted fabric crosses and other gifts for cancer patients and anyone that requested them.
She is survived by her two children, Phil Hopkins (Kathy) and Ann Hopkins King (Will), Mark King; four grandchildren, Becca Newman (Jobe), Forrest King (Tiffany), Andrew Hopkins, and Griffin King; and her great-grandson, Martin Newman.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, James Earl Clayton, Joe Clayton, John Clayton, and Jerry Clayton.
