Dorothy Lee Craig

Dorothy Lee Craig, resident of the Somerville Community, former Memphis resident and retired owner of Harold Craig Floor Covering in Memphis died Monday evening, November 21, 2011 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for one week. She was 62 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Services of Remembrance will be 2 Friday afternoon at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel of Somerville with interment in Somerville City Cemetery. A visitation will be one hour before services at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel of Somerville.
Dorothy was born April 21, 1949 in Monette, Arkansas and as a young person was a resident of Lake City, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Craig and Dora Cleghorn Craig. She received her education in the Arkansas Public School Systems and in earlier years was a small business owner in several western states. She returned to Memphis in 1984 and was associated with the carpet business for a number of years before her retirement in January of this year.
Dorothy was the former owner of Harold Craig Carpets in Memphis and was associated with Floor Specialties in Memphis before her retirement. She was a Christian and was an avid fan of the Memphis Grizzlies and the University of Memphis basketball team. A family-oriented person throughout her life with many friends in the communities where she lived, Dorothy enjoyed life to the fullest and recently moved to the Somerville Community to be near family.
She held a special closeness and friendship with her friend, Barry Watts and to Mildred and her family. She received much enjoyment from her pet poodle, Chloe.
Dorothy is survived by three sisters, Mary Bryant of Fort Worth, TX, Wanda Covey of Trumann, AR, Linda Hayes (Darrell) of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers, Gerald E. Craig (Doris) of Lake City, AR, Harold W. Craig (Jan) of Somerville; and a host of nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Miller, Lois Pyron; and her brother, Franklin Craig.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers are Mark Covey, Jeff Miller, Chris Miller, Sandy Thweatt, Bryan Shinault and David Paschal.
Honorary casketbearers are Johnathan Utley, Joshua Utley, Avery Shinault and Payton Shinault.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
