Dorothy “Dot” Price Hooker, resident of the Somerville Community,former longtime resident of the Eads Community and wife of the late James Fredric Hooker departed this life Saturday morning, March 30, 2013 at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville where she had resided for eight years. She was 91 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Hooker were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, April 2nd at the Bethany Christian Church in the Eads Community with Rev. Furniss Harkness of the church officiating. Interment followed in the Bethany Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Hooker was born April 2, 1921 in Somerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Washington Price and Ruby Magdalene Wilson Price. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and graduated from the Fayette County High School in Somerville in 1939. She continued her education in the Draughn’s Business College in Memphis. She was married February 4, 1940 to James Fredric Hooker, who preceded her in death on September 18, 2007.

Mrs. Hooker will be remembered as a longtime seamstress, a labor of love that she enjoyed for over 34 years before her retirement. She was also a devoted homemaker and a longtime member of the Bethany Christian Church, where she participated in numerous church activities as long as health permitted. Gardening, fishing and being with family members and friends were favorite pastimes of Mrs. Hooker. She also received much pleasure in later years playing Bingo with her friends at the National HealthCare Center. Mrs. Hooker was a caring and compasionate person who made lasting relationships throughout her life.

Mrs. Hooker is survived by her daughter, Darlene Hooker Sawyer (Tom) of Cordova; two sons, John F. Hooker (Tessie) of Oakland, Richard W. Hooker (Bobbie) of Holly Springs, MS; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Dolan, Geneva Youngblood; and three brothers, James Price, Johnny Price and Harold Price.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jeff Hooker, Tyler Hooker, Jim Sawyer, Joe Sawyer, Michael Hooker and Don D’Amato.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Bethany Christian Church or the Bethany Cemetery Association, 421 Bethany Road, Eads, TN 38028.
