DOROTHY VIVIAN PATTY LOWREY, former resident of the Moscow Community and wife of Louis Wayne Lowrey died at 7:30 P.M. Monday, July 13, 2009 at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville where she had resided for five years. She was 94 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lowrey were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, July 16th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Jim Griffith, Pastor of the Moscow United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Lowrey was born February 22, 1915 in Mexia Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Benjamin Patty and Etta Louise Adams Patty.
She received her education in the Texas Public School System and was a graduate of the Mexia High School.
She was married December 24, 1947 to Louis Wayne Lowrey, who survives. Mr. Lowrey served as President of the Cole Millwork Manufacturing Company in Memphis, before his retirement.
Mr. and Mrs. Lowrey were former residents of Texas and Missouri before moving to the Memphis area fifty-four years ago. They were residents of the Moscow Community for the past thirty years.
Mrs. Lowrey was a Methodist throughout her life and was active in community affairs in Memphis and Fayette County as long as health permitted. She will be remembered for her love of flowers and the game of Bridge and for many years was an active member of the East Memphis Garden Club.
She also participated in the Fayette County Community Bible Study until her illness and was a former member of the Mullins United Methodist Church in Memphis and a member of the Moscow United Methodist Church at the time of her death.
Mrs. Lowrey will be remembered as a kind, gracious and much loved lady.
In addition to her husband of sixty-one years, Mrs. Lowrey is survived by her daughter, Janice Lowrey Brien of Moscow and her companion, Bill Carneal; her son, Jimmy Ray Lowrey and wife Sheila of Grand Junction; three grandchildren: Keri Ferguson, Jodi Morris and Courtney Crawford; five great-grandchildren: Hannah Crawford, Dylan Crawford, Wilson Morris, Benjamin Morris and Brittian Ferguson; five nieces: Sister St. John Begnaud, Sue Brown, Mary Pat Schmidt (Gary), Connie Pugh (John) and Sherry Denny (David) and three nephews: Douglas Douthit (Jeanene), Walt Sunday (Ginger) and Donald Sunday (Terry).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Dr. Fred Bugg, Glen Noblin, Terry Melvin, Bill Cowan, Ron Elder and "Vip" Lewis.
Hal Holcomb served as honorary casket bearer.
